3 Tips For Allergy Sufferers!

Posted by Laura Pop on

With 25% of Canadians suffering from seasonal allergies, there is comfort in knowing you are not alone! For most people, the culprit triggers are grass, trees,  moulds and ragweed. Ragweed can be especially annoying as the ideal temperatures for the pollen to thrive are cool evenings and warm days, the perfect spring weather forecast.

*Before starting your diffuser for your essential oils, be sure to wash and clean it thoroughly, especially if you are prone to allergic reactions.

Peppermint Oil (Diffuser)

Diffuse five drops of peppermint essential oil in your diffuser to help clear sinuses and soothe an irritated throat. Peppermint has been proven to help relax muscles in the nasal cavity, giving the body the ability to clear out allergens and build up of mucus like pollen. To reduce inflammation, take 1–2 drops of pure peppermint essential oil internally once a day.

Peppermint Oil (Topical)

Peppermint essential oil can also be applied topically either straight or diluted in coconut oil or jojoba oil. If you are using a Roll-On Remedy like Breathe-Easy, apply gently to the chest, back of your neck and temples. For people with sensitive skin, it is always best to dilute essential oils before topical application.

Eucalyptus Oil (Diffuse & Inhalation)

Many respiratory issues associated with allergies can be alleviated with the diffusing of Eucalyptus Globulus, approximately 5 drops of in your  diffuser. It can also be used in a steam shower in the form of a shower steamer cube or spray. The cubes are placed on your shower caddy, and once moistened, they start to fizz and release the concentrated essential oil blend of peppermint and eucalyptus.

You can also use the pure essential oil to help clear your nasal passages and congestion by pouring 2 cups of boiling water into a bowl, then add 2-3 drops of eucalyptus essential oil. Place a towel over your head and inhale deeply for 5–10 minutes.

Lemon Oil

This is a simple quick fresh kick that helps your body with lymphatic drainage and eases respiratory distress as well. Mix a few drops of lemon essential oil into a spray bottle of distilled water, use it to spritz couches, chairs, curtains, beds and carpets! Can also add a few drops to your unscented laundry detergent as well! Be sure to use only chemical-free products in your home.
